The Bharatpur district also known as "The eastern gateway of Rajasthan", Lies in the eastern Rajasthan. Bharatpur city was the capital of the district and The ' Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan' was founded vy Maharaja Surajmal in 1733 AD. A jat ruler, with the construction of a swall fort at chauburja in 1703. The name of the city seems to derive its name after "Bharat", the brother of Rama. In 1733 Maharaja Soorajmal captured & built a bif fort at the highest point and also constructed the eastern wall & moat around it. With the passage of time, The town grew organically around these fort complexes, with a second moat & mud wall around it. The walled city of Bharatpur has typical medieval character reflecting the need for security & expressing the individual identity of erstwhile rulers. It has attained a unique character through various stage of its historical growth. The walled town is an irregular piece of land elongated in north-east to south west direction. It is endowd with some special features of historical, archaeological & planning isterests. These include fort, palace, mud wall & the religious buildings.
Geography :- Bharatpur town is located the east longitude 76˚53' to 78˚17' and North latitude 26˚22' to 27˚83' and altitude of 175.00 meters above mean sea level and is very well connected with Delhi-Mumbai broad gauge railway line. A broad gauge railway line also links it with Jaipur.
Demographics :- The Population of Bharatpur town in 2011 is recorded as 252342 persons. males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%.

Railway Junction :- Bharatpur junction is a major railway station on Delhi-Mumbai broad gauge railway line. A broad gauge railway line also links it with Jaipur-Agra.
Language :- Brij bhasha is spoken by majority of population. Other languages spoken in the region are Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.
Lacation of Bharatpur district :- Bharatpur is situated at the foothills of the aravalli Mountain series and is strategically located between the most eastern parts of the state. It forms boundaries with Gurgaon district of Haryana in the morth and north-east. Mathura and Agra lies in the east. Dhaulpur district of Rajasthan lies in its south and Sawai Madhopur, Dausa and Alwar district of Rajasthan are in the West.
