Rajasthan State Biodiversity Board


The Convention was opened for signature at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 5 June 1992 and entered into force on 29 December 1993. After becoming a party to the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1994, the Government of India has taken many important steps to further strengthen the existing framework. The Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (No. 18 of 2003) was enacted by ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India after approval of the Parliament and the assent of the president on the 5th February, 2003. This Act provides for conservation of biological resources and its diversity, sustainable use of its components and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the use of biological resources, knowledge and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 63 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, the Government of Rajasthan framed ‘ Rajasthan Biological Diversity Rules, 2010’, vide notification dated 02 March, 2010.
As per provision of Section 22 of this Act, the State Government (s) shall establish State Biodiversity Board for the purpose of this Act. Accordingly the Government of Rajasthan has established the Rajasthan State Biodiversity Board, vide Government order number: F.4(8) Forest/2005/Part 1 Jaipur dated 14 September, 2010.
